Laser Tattoo Removal: Aftercare Instructions

Prior to your appointment, please review our laser tattoo removal aftercare instructions.

The tattoo removal laser treatment may create a superficial burn wound. There is an immediate whitening of the area, which usually lasts for several minutes.

Many clients then develop blisters, crusts, or scabs within 12-82 hours, which last 1-2 weeks or more. The treated areas may be pink or pale after the scab separates.

Loss of skin pigment in the treated area is common and is usually temporary. Some clients may experience bruising or swelling, and healing is usually complete in 8-12 weeks.

Water!

Drink lots of water in the following weeks after your treatment to help your body flush out more ink. Cardio will also help improve your circulation and aid in flushing out more ink.

Keep it dry.
Keep it clean.

Keep the treated area dry while it is healing. Clean the area gently with soap and water, and then gently pat the area dry. Do not use hot tubs or saunas for at least 1-2 days.

24 hour cool down.

You may apply a cool compress as necessary for 24 hours after the laser treatment to help reduce discomfort and inflammation. You may take a regular strength acetaminophen (like Tylenol), but avoid Asprin, as it can increase the risk of bruising and/or bleeding.

Dont pick.

Do not pick at the scab or scratch the area, as this may result in infection and scarring. Shaving should be avoided in the treatment area until it is completely healed. If the area becomes inflamed or shows signs of infection after one week, you may apply a thin coating of antibiotic ointment up to 3 times a day, keeping the area covered with a sterile dressing.

Let the heat out!

Do not wear any makeup with any medicated creams unless recommended by our office for 48 hours.

Sun exposure.

Wear a sunblock with an SPF 25 or higher over the healed area of 3 months following the treatment, or keep the area covered with clothing.

Avoid smoking.

Smoking restricts blood flow, which can cause the removal process to be less effective, and likely result in you needing more laser treatmemts.
